Want to check out a CrossFit gym while you are traveling? It’s a great way to see the culture of another gym or to pick up some tips from a different coach.
Click on the My Athletic Life CrossFit Locations Map. Here you can search for a list of the gyms near your destination. But, simply getting an address and showing up for a workout may leave you disappointed.
Over the past month, I have emailed nearly 500 CrossFit gym owners about their drop-in policies. And while most gyms do allow visitors, the fees and procedures for attending a class are varied.
Some gyms allow you to attend one class for free, some may ask that you purchase one of their t-shirts, and some will even let you exchange one of your home gym’s t-shirts as payment for a session. In general, most gyms ask for payment of $10-$20 for each session and a few have multi-session discounts or weekly passes.
A few gyms require an email from your coach acknowledging that you are a current member of a CrossFit affiliate. This is mainly to confirm that you know basic movements and aren’t likely to injure yourself.
I am slowly but surely adding this information to the map; however my best advice – call or email the gym BEFORE your trip in order to get all of the details necessary to be able to attend the class that fits your schedule.
What has been your experience in dropping in to another CrossFit gym?
