Next week my sons, Neil and Evan, will turn 9 years old. It is an awesome age where they are hungry to learn new things, AND they still think their Dad is cool – I’m guessing this will start changing in the next couple of years.
For the most part, Jenny and I have encouraged the boys to participate in the sports that appeal to them vs. trying to steer them in a particular direction. They both seem to have an interest in track and field as well as gymnastics, and like a lot of other 9 year olds, they like to wrestle. A couple of days ago, I tried to teach them a “single leg takedown,” but as I was never a wrestler, I decided to check out Youtube for some help.
After surfing through a few specific technique videos, I found this gem:
What do you guys think? Personally, I’m a little bit afraid.
But clearly this kid has put a lot of effort into refining and perfecting his wrestling skills.
What has been your experience with kids and sports? At what age do they stop dabbling and find something that sticks?
